Independence Day

On this day, the birthday of our nation, I wrote the most I've written on one of my novels in a long while. Very liberating. ;-) However, it was on Calliope's story again and not Artemisia's. I am nervous about having both of they related works going at the same time. I don't like the idea of neglecting one in favor of the other. But I also don't want to lose important ideas by ignoring one of them.

Have I said all of this before or what?

There could be a reason behind Calliope's story moving to the foreground. Perhaps I need to understand her better as a teen before moving on to her life as an adult. By knowing her struggles before finding a little slice of happiness (only to have it taken away again) I can make her even more real to my readers.

Writing is a roller coaster ride. The highs are exhilarating and the lows make you want to quit. Why would anyone choose this for themselves? As any writer will tell you if you ask, they don't - it chooses them. It's a need, a compulsion, to get what's inside their head out and make it reality.

I'm working on two books right now and it's a nightmare. I have to keep track of both of them and feel guilty when I'm working on one because I think I should be working on the other. Even if I work on one and feel satisfied I still feel guilty about not working on the other! I'll never work on two books at the same time again. The only thing that keeps me sane is that one is fiction and the other is non-fiction so the vibe of both is different. It keeps me on my toes. I just hope my toes don't break.

LOL! Jai, you crack me up! Unfortunately, I don't have that luxury. Mine are interconnected. One is about Calliope and the other is about Artemisia, her daughter. Both are historical fiction, a new genre for me, but one I'm finding I enjoy and am pretty good at too. :)

Glad you're enjoying the genre. I loved it when I wrote 'Follow the Cowherd Boy'. There's something so fun about telling a story and learning as you do it.

I'm planning on writing a trilogy at some point. I've made many notes on it, have plotted the three books and know the characters and have even worked on character profiles too. I'm going to be steady about it and write one at a time but I know I'll have to keep referencing myself to keep track. Talk about keeping me on my toes! I'll have to break out my ballerina shoes.

Good luck with Calliope and Artemesia.

Thanks, Jai.

When I get a few extra dollars I'm going to order your book. I feel so badly that I haven't done it yet because it sounds really good!

Best of luck with your two current projects as well. :-)
