Now is the hour.
I just arrived home from a trip to Florida for the wedding of one of my best friends and on the plane I read the July/August issue of Writer's Digest - PUB 101. I must admit that I was one of the innumerable newbies who had no idea how much work goes into taking a book from acquisition to bookstore shelves. I need to do a LOT more research before I start querying again. Like brushing up on my contract law, looking at private publicists and track down the resources mentioned by the authors who contributed to this issue. All of this while trying to juggle a part-time job at a bookstore(which gives me an edge on the market research suggestions I read), start a new part-time job, this blog and keep writing creatively. Sure, I'll just pencil that in right after I fly around the world really fast to reverse the Earth's rotation and go back in time.

It's exhausting, isn't it? As if writing a book isn't enough, we have to know about all this other stuff too.
Hope you had fun in Florida. I was traumatised by the things I saw on Floridian beaches. I'll never brave them again.

Hey Jai,
Good to hear from you! :-)
It is exhausting, and a bit discouraging too. Not that it will keep me from trying, but still - sheesh!
I did have a nice time. I won't ask what traumatized you, but I didn't see anything disturbing - except for a lot of old men without their shirts on which was a bit traumatizing now that I think about it! :-O
It was worse than that. Old men in thongs, girl, old men in thongs. I was a stuttering wreck by the end of the day.
Having griped about all the other stuff that goes into publishing apart from writing, I have to admit that I've learned tons of things in the three years since I self published my book. I'm so much more better informed and experienced which can't be a bad thing. There's ups and downs, I suppose.
